CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

Good procedure for seed collection, handling and storageis important whether the seed is destined for researchpurposes or for dissemination by afforestation programmes.Careful selection of parent trees can reduce the likelihoodof inbreeding and thus maintain a greater degree of geneticdiversity. Appropriate handling and storage can prolong significantly the viability of the seed and maxiniize germinationrates. In this section, guidelines are given forthe collection, handling and storage of seed destinedfor planting programmes rather than specifically for research (selection strategies in seed collection for research purposes arediscussed in more detail in Section 8.1)
