Proceedings of the workshop on voices of poor livestock keepers in Migori district held at Gilly Hotel, Migori, Kenya 12th February 2003

The challenge facing Kenya in general and migori district in particular is to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable economic growth. The agriculture sector is known to be mainstay of the rural folks contributing over 80% of livelihoods in the rural areas. However, in the last decade, agricultural production has stagnated, resulting in increased level of food insecurity and malnutrition. Suffice it to say at this point when the planners talk of food security little do they include livestock production and hence very little attention is given to the development of the same.
