AB 'Agroforestry' means deliberate incorporation of trees into farming systems. Many agroforestry practices are traditional but agroforestry has been the subject of formal research recently. Some of this research has been participatory, actively involving farmers. The experiences of researchers involved in participatory agroforestry field experimentation research are reviewed and the biometrical implications discussed. Many researchers have called for 'new' methods to cope with the problems they have faced in partipatory agroforestry research. However there is little evidence that new methods are needed.
