Nutrient composition of guava (Psidium guajava L.) fruits as influenced by soil nutrients

Guava (Psidium guajava L.) fruit is appreciated both as a fresh fruit and anindustrially processed product in the form of juices, jellies, and sweets. It is rich insugars, minerals and vitamins, hence considered a `super fruit´ nutritionally. Fruitnutrient composition are to a larger extent a reflection of the soil mineralcomposition and geographic regions (1) and varies with climate (2), maturity, cultivar (3), and agricultural practices. The composition of fruits may therefore varyfrom region to region due to change of climatic conditions (4) and soil nutrients.Limited data exist on the mineral content of tropical fruits, especially underutilizedones such as guava in relation to these variables, hence limits their contribution tonutritional security.
