s:1240:"TI Local farmer organizations in upland natural resources management in Indonesia AU Sunito S AU Saharuddin AB The present overview on local (farmer) organization has been done as part of Phase I of a collaborative research project of three countries, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia organized and coordinated by The International Center for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF). The main subject of the collaborative research will be on Local Organizations in Natural Resource Management in the Uplands of Southeast Asia. A draft conceptual framework for the main research and the present study was developed at a workshop convened in August 2000 in Cagayan de Oro, the Philippines. The present overview on local (farmer) organization will serve as an introductory text on the subject matter in Indonesia. Hypotheses and research questions can be drawn from this study for a deeper research in the next stage of the project. For this study three regions are chosen to represent the three categories of socio ecological regions in Indonesia, namely: East and Central Java represent the densely populated region; Kalimantan to represent the scare populated regions; and Sumatra to represent the category between Java and Kalimantan.
