Landcare Philippines: what lessons for Africa?

The persistent high rates of poverty, food security and declining per capita agricultural productivity in Subsaharan Africa is a matter of great concern amongst researchers, practioners and policy makers. Futher, attention is being focused on formidable natural resource management problems deemed both as part of the cause and consequences of these ills. Though considerable effort, time and resources over the past decade has been spent in developing farm technologies and natural resource management practices to break the vicious circle of poverty, this has not yielded the expected results.
