South Cameroon is a forest area where slash-and-burn agriculture is practiced. The area by a north to south vegetation gradient. Due to population growth the fallow length of the shifting cultivation system has greatly shortened thus increasing the rate of deforestation. This study tries to better characterize the landscape and its changes over time using low-resolution and high-resolution remote sensing data. It looks particularly at the slash-and-burn practices and tries to analyse them in order to find out if they are leading to deforestation in the area.
