CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

The World Agroforestry Centre's experience in cross-sectoral policy planning in Africa

This chapter uses a case study approach to present the role and experience of the World's Agroforestry Centre (officially known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry, ICRAF) in cross-sectoral policy. The working model used by the institution is discussed in relation to their partners and clients, in order to offer a number of contextual observations. The scope is mainly confined in Africa, which is where about two-thirds of ICRAF's project portfolio is located. The policy planning framework and key planning elements (i.e., external messages, personnel location, agroforestry networks and participation in policy forums) are given. In addition, the specific policy aspects and a wide-range of cross-sectoral actors are discussed
