This customised technical manual on tree species selection and management for the island of Anjouan in the Comoros archipelago aims to improve agroforestry decision-making by providing easily accessible information on a range of locally relevant tree species, their ecological and propagation requirements, uses and key management attributes. The recommendations provided combination of participative research on local knowledge with available scientific information on native and exotic species. It reviews key principles of tree selection including consideration of the potential risks surrounding invasive and exotic species and on the importance of endemic and native species for maintaining the provision of ecosystem services. It covers various agroforestry practices and general advice on tree management and propagation.
