%X The objective of this paper is to present an overview of PES initiatives implemented by state governments in Brazil. The methodology focused on bibliographic and documentary research, as well as interviews with technical staff involved in the issue. The next sections present the findings in terms of state-level legislation and programs, and main conclusions and recommendations from the Brazilian experience.
