CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Knowledge gap

“It is possible that logging may have a positive effect, because when you remove some trees, there’s more light reaching the others.” says Manuel Guariguata. “On the other hand, when you alter the structure of the forest the pollinator bees may be disrupted, which could reduce fruit production. But we just don’t know.” Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) scientist Manuel Guariguata standing on the stump of a felled tree in a logging gap in a Brazil nut concession.

Manuel Guariguata is leading a study examining the impact of selective logging on Brazil nut production - for the full story see: www.blog.cifor.org/16623/harvesting-both-timber-and-brazi...
