Bushmeat

Sun rises over the Amazon river near the Colombian town of Puerto Nariño. New research into the contribution of bushmeat to people’s diets and local economies has uncovered a significant clandestine trade in the meat of animals such as peccary, tapir, boruga (Agouti paca), deer and turtles. Researchers say that legalizing and regulating the trade could be better than keeping it underground. Working with hunters to design hunting management plans and monitor impacts will be a key starting point to build trust and keep hunting at sustainable levels.
