The Global Peatlands Initiative is a new effort by NGOs, scientists, research institutes and the private sector to save one of the world’s largest carbon stocks, which have crucial importance in fighting climate change. In terms of scale and scope, the initiative – aiming to increase the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of peatlands in countries with significant peat deposits – goes beyond any recent collaborative efforts on peatlands.
