Christopher Martius is the Interim Team Leader for Climate Change, Energy and Low-Carbon Development (CCE). He is a Senior Scientist in CIFOR’s Climate Change, Bioenergy and Low-Carbon Deveopment Team. Chris holds a Ph.D. in Biology (Ecology) from the University of Göttingen, Germany, and has over 25 years of leadership experience in in interdisciplinary approaches to development and climate change. Between 2013 and 2019 he supervised CIFOR’s Global Comparative Study on REDD+, a research partnership in 15 countries. From 2013 to 2021, he also coordinated the Flagship Program on climate change mitigation and adaptation in the CGIAR research program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA). Currently he coordinates the work on strategy development in the One-CG project on Low-Emission Food Systems. Chris has published 210 scientific articles on climate change, forestry, tropical ecology, soil ecology, and agriculture in scientific journals, he co-edited eight scientific books, and he co-authored over 120 policy briefs and communications to the public.
