CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Dr Alice Muchugi holds a PhD and MSc that specialise on characterising diversity and sustainable use of tree genetic resources. She has been engaged in various research and development projects involving tree genetic resources across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and the work has been published in over 100 papers, books, and book chapters. Her experience includes key leadership roles in Genebanks at two international research centers (CIFOR-ICRAF and ILRI) where she has been instrumental in preserving critical genetic resources. As a former senior lecturer at Kenyatta University and a scientist in these research centres, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to educating and mentoring the next generation of African scientists. Alice played a pivotal role in supporting the African Orphan Crops Consortium, an initiative that has advanced research on underutilized crops. Her research portfolio extends to crop wild relatives and anti-methane fodder plants, addressing important issues of food security and climate change mitigation. In her current role, Alice oversees the Tree Themes activities that focus on safeguarding tree diversity, ensuring the availability of quality planting materials, and supporting landscape restoration efforts to combat climate change and support nutritional security. Her research and leadership continue to shape the future of tree genetic resources and biodiversity conservation on a global scale. More brief information on her areas of research can be accessed at https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Alice-Muchugi.
