Sven Wunder is Principal Scientist (Economist) with the European Forest Institute (EFI), with side affiliations as Senior Associate at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) (where he worked 2000-2018) and as Honorary Professor at the University of Copenhagen. He holds MA and PhD degrees in Economics, and habilitation (post-doctoral degree) in Forest Economics, all from University of Copenhagen. His work over the last three decades has centered around forests and natural resource management, development economics, and incentive policies for forest conservation (such as PES) — in Asia, Africa, and especially Latin America, with prolonged work and study periods in Brazil, Indonesia, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and the UK (University of Oxford). Since 2014, he has been on Thomsen – Reuters/Clarivate’s “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” yearly list over the 70 globally most cited interdisciplinary scientists. Stanford University’s Excellency Analysis ranked him in 2020 as the globally 3rd most – cited scientist in “Agricultural Economics & Policy”. He has advised both NGO and policy initiatives in the Global South on designing forest incentive instruments.
