The Agroforestry for Sustainable Rural Development in the Zambezi Basin project aims to provide sustainable options for rural development in southern Africa. The project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the Swedish Agency for Research Cooperation with Developing Countries (SAREC), the Norwegian Agency for International Development (NORAD), and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ). The main objectives of this project are to disseminate proven agroforestry technologies and to carry out high-quality back-up research that will provide options for farmers in the region to deal with the problems of declining soil fertility, shortage of fodder and fuel wood and deteriorating environment.
