In Rondania, Brazil it is not the local population pressure that has converted the forest to agriculture, instead deforestation appears to be driven by the increase in migrants to the area and road construction. Land speculation has also contributed to the loss of forests in Rondonia. Thus deforestation process in the Brazil Amazon cannot be strictly linked to population growth. To understand this a deeper comprehension of the different time-scale processes operating in forest conversion is needed. The present paper tries to identify and analyse the complex relationships that have lead to deforestation in the state of Rondonia and the municipio Theobroma.
