The Philippines is in a strategic position to respond not only to the Bonn Challenge but also to the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, 2021 to 2030.
The Decade is designed as the global movement that can end poverty, hunger, malnutrition, gender inequality and the degradation of ecosystems by harnessing the power of nature and local communities.
To showcase and consolidate the Philippines’ accomplishments and potentially set a national restoration agenda to which all stakeholders are committed, a webinar series and conference-workshop are proposed.
The webinars will discuss the forestland restoration (FLR) concept in the context of the Philippines (first webinar); the experiences of various groups in implementing FLR in the country (second and third webinars); and funding mechanisms and opportunities for FLR (fourth webinar).
A conference-workshop will follow the series to identify opportunities and mechanisms to cascade national FLR targets to local levels, building on existing restoration initiatives.
The webinars are knowledge-intensive and provide a platform to share experience, highlight challenges and limitations, and take an inclusive approach to identify options for the Philippines’ participation in these important international movements. The conference-workshop will serve as the culminating activity, with an end goal of setting a common national restoration agenda.

Accelerating Momentum Through Innovative Funding Mechanisms for Forest and Landscape Restoration
The last of this webinar series will discuss the funding mechanisms and opportunities that the Philippines can access to launch Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) initiatives. Donor agencies and development partners will present various funding mechanisms to sustain and accelerate FLR efforts in the country. For this webinar, Mr. Marc Dumas-Johansen from the Green Climate Fund will give a keynote presentation.
Building on forest and landscape restoration successes from the integrated natural resources and environmental management project
The third webinar will feature the experiences of the Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management Project (INREMP) in FLR. INREMP is a seven-year project aiming to boost the climate resilience of upland communities by implementing sustainable land-use options in four priority river basins: Chico Upper River Basin, Wahig-Inabanga River Basin, Bukidnon Upper River Basin, and Lake Lanao River Basin. Dr. Takeshi Ueda, Principal Natural Resources and Agriculture Economist of the Asian Development Bank will provide a keynote address.

Consolidating Experiences and Gains from Forest and Landscape Restoration Initiatives in the Philippines
The second webinar will showcase successful forest landscape restoration interventions in the Philippines by various stakeholders—INGOs, NGOs, private sector, local governments, and civil society groups. Interventions can be technologies, practices, and services implemented to restore degraded landscapes.

The first webinar will set the stage for the entire series. It will focus on the concept of forest landscape restoration (FLR) as a global agenda and its application in various geographies. Challenges that hamper FLR efforts will be discussed alongside current initiatives and sectoral targets set by the Philippine Government.
