CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

FLARE 2024 Annual Meeting

Imagination and Innovation for Forests and Livelihoods

Forests are under strain across the globe from both new and long-standing pressures, affecting the hundreds of millions of people who rely on them for their well-being. To understand and tackle the challenges facing forests and their dependents, we will need to exercise imagination and foster innovation. However, innovation comes in many forms, and some claims to novelty may not seem so innovative when viewed through a broader lens or a longer historical perspective.

Nevertheless, other socio-technological advancements—such as remote sensing, artificial intelligence, drones, and blockchain—are undeniably novel. What impact do these innovations have? What are their promises or perils? How are they reshaping our understanding of the relationship between forests, trees, and people?

CIFOR-ICRAF scientists will participate in the FLARE Conference 2024, contributing valuable insights on forest landscape governance and the latest research on sustainable practices.
