Collaboration exploration of Indonesia’s mangrove species potential for Jeju island, South Korea
South Korea is focusing on 'blue carbon' within mangroves and wetlands to mitigate climate change. This initiative comes as the country's forested areas reach their limits, gradually losing their capacity to store carbon as trees age. Scientists from South Korea, Vietnam, and the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) are actively examining the potential of mangrove species from Indonesia. They aim to grow these species on Jeju, South Korea's largest island, where semi-mangrove species are already established and expanding their area.
