Science needs clear communication channels to cut through the noise, if research is to have any impact. CIFOR-ICRAF is as passionate about sharing our knowledge as we are in generating it.
CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests,
landscapes, people and the planet.
We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and
restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short,
improving people’s lives.
CIFOR-ICRAF and partners are currently conducting research with the theme “Scaling jurisdictional approaches in the Indonesian palm oil sector”. The overall objective of the research is to increase the preparedness of four palm oil producing regions to implement jurisdictional programmes (JPs) through participatory, multistakeholder and gender inclusive approaches. The four selected regencies are Sintang in West Kalimantan, Pelalawan in Riau, Kutai Kartanegara in East Kalimantan and Pulang Pisau in Central Kalimantan.
One component of the research – Work Package 3 – is to align the designing of a national-scale or comprehensive Theory of Change, Theory of Action and Monitoring and Evaluation Framework that can increase the resilience, scalability and efficacy of jurisdictional programmes. National-level research activities commenced with the implementation of the First National Workshop and Global Landscape Forum Dialogue in Bogor on 12 October 2023. In addition to disseminating research findings and outcomes from regency-level workshops, the First National Workshop also discussed and identified important issues, solutions and actors in jurisdictional approach initiatives for the palm oil and agriculture sectors, especially in Indonesia.
As a follow up, CIFOR-ICRAF will hold the Second National Workshop themed “Scenarios for Change to Support Sustainable Palm Oil in Enhancing Community Well-being and Mitigating Climate Change”. The workshop is aimed at disseminating information, and continuing discussions on issues, solutions and actors as well as necessary actions and monitoring indicators to support national-level sustainable palm oil initiatives in enhancing community well-being and mitigating climate change.
Specific objectives of the Second National Workshop are to:
Disseminate progress and results of CIFOR-ICRAF and partners’ research in relation to jurisdictional approaches for sustainable palm oil in Indonesia;
Disseminate and share experiences on developments and lessons learned through national-level sustainable palm oil initiatives in enhancing community well-being and mitigating climate change;
Identify issues, solutions and actors, as well as actions and monitoring indicators through a transtheoretical model (TTM) approach (Theory of Change, Theory of Action and Monitoring and Evaluation Framework) to support national-level sustainable palm oil initiatives in enhancing community well-being and mitigating climate change.
