CIFOR-ICRAF at UNFCCC COP29
11–22 Nov 2024, Baku, AzerbaijanCapacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement in Promoting Sustainable Management and Restoration of Tropical Peatlands
Efforts to promote sustainable management and restoration of peatlands require an integrated approach, combining technical knowledge, strong stakeholder engagement, and capacity-building initiatives at various levels of governance and society. In this context, capacity building and stakeholder engagement are pivotal for the success of peatland restoration and management, as they enhance the capabilities of various actors—including government, the private sector, civil society, and local communities—to adopt and implement sustainable practices.
Additionally, enhanced policy integration and innovative financing mechanisms are key to strengthening coordination between local and national policies, increasing technical and financial support for stakeholders, and developing creative funding models that can contribute to more sustainable and resilient peatland governance.
Objectives
- Share best practices and lessons learned in capacity building and stakeholder engagement for sustainable peatland management.
- Foster cross-sectoral cooperation among governments, local communities, researchers, civil society, and the private sector in peatland management.
