The Central African forests, vital global biodiversity and carbon reserves: a major challenge for domestic and international mobilisation
The COMIFAC – ECCAS – CBFP – CAFI multi-stakeholders dialogue aims to speed up the implementation of commitments of the COMIFAC 2021 declaration titled “Declaration of Commitment of COMIFAC Member States for the Forests of Central Africa and the Call for Equitable Financing” and of the COP26 Congo Basin Joint Donor Statement titled “Supporting the protection and sustainable management of the Congo Basin forests”. It will help actors take ownership, in a streamlined format, of the strategic focus of CBFP’s roadmap for 2023-2025 which is to:
Promote dialogue and scientific cooperation relating to the Congo Basin forests;
Consolidate spatial and land-use planning and sustainable value chains;
Accelerate the development of innovative financing mechanisms;
Continue to highlight the importance of the Congo Basin Forests: Strengthen the Partnership's institutional governance; Assert its role in regional and multilateral forums
Continue to strengthen dialogue and synergies with CBFP partners, in particular China and the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI)
The session will call for concrete and effective action to protect and sustainably use the forests of the Congo Basin. By highlighting networks and initiatives, the aim is to promote the forests of Central Africa as a source of solutions in the fight against climate change.
To this effect, discussions during this event will allow for:
COMIFAC countries to present their actions in favour of the preservation and sustainable management of Central African forests;
The presentation of the 2023-2025 operational roadmap
The presentation of the “Fair Share” reflexions to pay ecosystem services of Central African forests;
Better coordination and mobilisation of stakeholders.
