SESSION

Scaling carbon removals in agricultural soils

Soils have significant potential to sequester carbon by transitioning from conventional farming to regenerative agriculture practices - but there are barriers which need to be overcome to accelerate the shift.

This session brings together diverse perspectives to explore the intersection of science, technology, finance, and carbon policies and standards in driving the transition to regenerative agriculture among farmers. Featuring short presentations from private market leaders, scientific experts, international carbon standard representatives, and a pioneering regenerative farmer, attendees will gain insights into the innovative strategies and opportunities for turning agricultural soils into carbon sinks.

Speakers:

  • Rattan Lal, Chair of Soil Science and Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainable Development Issues, IICA and Director of Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration, Ohio State University
State of the science, CO2 sequestration potential, cost of transition, need for finance
  • Anton Yaristky, Ukrainian farmer, Pidgirne Farms
Experience in regenerative farming and from the field perspective benefits
  • Simon Haldrup, CEO, Agreena
Technology platform supporting farmers and MRV solutions
  • Andrew Howard, Senior Director, Climate Policy and Strategy, Verra
The role of the VCM in supporting the financial transition to scale carbon removals
