Trees and forests: An investment in climate resilience
06 – 18 November 2022, Sharm el Sheikh, EgyptForest science to strengthen the REDD+ process in the Congo Basin: The case of the Democratic Republic of Congo
REDD+ is one of the main components of climate change mitigation responses in the Congo Basin. The Democratic Republic of Congo and other forest tropical countries engaged in the REDD+ process a decade ago. The REDD+ arena is characterized by a plurality of actors, and dynamics, including science and research. Research was a key component in generating information to understand the early phase of the dynamics and provide data useful in moving ahead and redefining the process. Speakers at this side event will share research findings to inform policymakers and practitioners on how they can develop and implement REDD+ policies and projects with stronger and more rigorous data in the Congo.
