RESPALDAR LA BIODIVERSIDAD: FINANCIAMIENTO PARA LOS BOSQUES Y LOS ÁRBOLES
CIFOR-ICRAF en la COP16 de Biodiversidad
El Marco mundial Kunming-Montreal de la diversidad biológica (KM-GBF) guía las acciones en todo el mundo para preservar y proteger la naturaleza. Fue adoptado por las Partes del Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biológica de las Naciones Unidas (CDB) en diciembre de 2022. El próximo mes de octubre, en la 16ª Conferencia de las Partes (COP16) del CDB en Cali (Colombia), las Partes revisarán la aplicación del marco hasta la fecha, harán un balance de las Estrategias y planes de acción nacionales en materia de diversidad biológica (EPANDB) revisados y actualizados de cada país, seguirán desarrollando su marco de seguimiento y movilizarán más recursos hacia esta causa.
En el Marco mundial Kunming-Montreal de la diversidad biológica, el CDB reconoce por primera vez la importancia de la contribución de las tierras gestionadas –incluidas las zonas agrícolas y urbanas– a la conservación y restauración de la biodiversidad. Para el Centro para la Investigación Forestal Internacional y Centro Internacional de Investigación Agroforestal (CIFOR-ICRAF), este reconocimiento es muy oportuno. Tenemos décadas de experiencia trabajando con usuarios de la tierra en todo el sur global para alcanzar simultáneamente objetivos climáticos, de biodiversidad, económicos y sociales, a través de enfoques holísticos como la agroforestería y la plantación de más árboles en las explotaciones agrícolas. También estamos profundamente comprometidos con la protección de los bosques primarios que quedan en el planeta, que desempeñan funciones específicas dentro de la biosfera y sirven para maximizar los servicios ecosistémicos.
