A Forest Future for All: Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems in Central Africa
Forests play a crucial role in people’s lives, homes and livelihoods. They significantly impact health, food security, income generation and biodiversity conservation.
Despite their immense benefits, many forests in Central Africa, just as in other parts of Africa, are under threat from hunting, logging, mining, deforestation, over-exploitation, climate change and conversion to other land uses, especially agriculture and infrastructure development.
Against this backdrop, this session, happening alongside the IUFRO 2024 World Congress seeks to achieve the following:
Offer insights into the significant contribution of forests to Africa’s development.
Highlight the role of research and science in providing evidence-based solutions to challenges facing forests in Central Africa3. Provide valuable knowledge and insights into the sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa. This will be based on findings from research done by scientists under CIFOR-ICRAF’S RESSAC project.
Robert Nasi, Chief Operating Officer, CIFOR-ICRAF and Director General, CIFOR
