This video describes the evolution, steps, and application of the InPaC-S methodology, a participatory approach originally developed in Brazil by World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), EMBRAPA and CIAT, and now being applied by ICRAF in Africa.
The methodology blends local knowledge and scientific knowledge, with scientists and farmers working together to determine locally appropriate soil management options to address commonly encountered constraints such as the loss of soil organic matter, erosion and nutrient depletion. Among these options is the integration of the right trees and shrubs into farms.
The participatory work also seeks to strengthen local institutions that support rural communities in making decisions related to soil management.
