CIFOR-ICRAF and the Government of Nepal strengthen partnership to advance sustainable agriculture and forestry

Bogor, 30 January 2025 – The Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) and the Government of Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) are strengthening their collaboration to address critical challenges through sustainable agriculture, forestry and agroforestry.

Senior officials from both organizations will attend the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, including Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary of MoALD.

CIFOR Director General and CIFOR-ICRAF Director of Science, Dr Robert Nasi, said “The MoU underscores our shared interest in supporting Nepal’s broader goals on sustainable agroforestry, livelihood improvement and natural resource management through innovative research.”

Since 2014, CIFOR-ICRAF has been working in Nepal to tackle pressing issues such as malnutrition, poverty and low farm productivity. One of the organization’s landmark contributions is its role in supporting Nepal’s Ministry of Agricultural Development and the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation in developing the National Agroforestry Policy of Nepal, which was launched in 2019 – the second policy of its kind in the world.
