Methods for Mangrove Blue Carbon Measurement and Business

18 December 2024, 09:30–16:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB)
Amazon Room, CIFOR-ICRAF Bogor Campus, by invitation only

To have a high-quality carbon project that can contribute to the climate and prosperity target in Indonesia, it is necessary to have a robust standard and methodology for its implementation. Beside credibility and accountability, it is important to consider involvement and impact for relevant stakeholders, especially communities. CIFOR-ICRAF and partners have developed relevant manuals and tools related to the mangrove blue carbon project that may assist various stakeholders with the blue carbon concept, monitoring technique and project development. Moreover, CIFOR-ICRAF has implemented action research for community-based mangrove restoration and learned that non-carbon benefit, especially that related to community livelihoods, is necessary for the community-based blue carbon business model to succeed. CIFOR-ICRAF has organized a one-day training event that aims to disseminate the science-based technique and lessons learned, and to share with the various stakeholders in blue carbon – that is, policymakers, practitioners, the private sector, academicians and researchers, as well as civil society – all relevant technical knowledge related to blue carbon monitoring and development.
