This side event will provide an overview of the work done on these two indicators, present a draft proposal and related metrics, and receive feedback from the Parties for further refinement. By joining this side event, national authorities and other stakeholders will learn more about these tow proposals and engage in a two-way dialogue on their applicability considering different national contexts, priorities and needs.

This event will highlight work that is being implemented by diverse actors that surfaces locally-led approaches for addressing people-centred climate and biodiversity action.

This side-event will explore the national restoration strategies and goals within Latin American countries, focusing on the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). The event aims to facilitate dialogue among policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders to share experiences, challenges, and best practices in biodiversity conservation and restoration.

In this session we will highlight “good examples” (from the «best of»); examine the role of CSOs, youth groups, and institutions; and provide several key recommendations for how parties can build «the people» back into their action plans and ensure a “whole of society” approach.

This interactive workshop aims to bring together young and seasoned experts to explore how the three Rio Conventions—Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Desertification, can work together to create real change.

The event will present the outcome of the multi actor dialogue process in advancing human rights-based approach for biodiversity and climate action . Showcasing the effectiveness of the Escazu Agreement in bringing new community voices into Environmental Decision Making processes.

The side event will provide an overview CASCADE’s current structure and capability, highlighting transnational collaborations and partnerships and indicating how it aligns with identified needs and current Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework support structures.

This event will together stakeholders from Africa, Latin South America and Europe to explore the role of youth in conserving protected areas and OECMs, while addressing challenges and opportunities to this effect.

This side event will showcase the progress made on selected joint initiatives within the Workplan. The event will cover a range of topics, including advocating for sustainable and inclusive wild biodiversity economies; embedding SWM in the One Health agenda; testing CITES Non-Detriment Finding (NDF) Guidance; and enhancing benefits to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs).

The event will illustrate how educators and practitioners can access the open access materials to enhance synergies between the implementation of UNCCD and CBD, and how SLM practices can jointly address land degradation and biodiversity loss.

The session will also showcase its relevance for reporting against key biodiversity targets and providing assurance about biodiversity impacts.

This session will explore, exchange, and identify pathways to leverage trade for supporting sustainable agricultural systems, contributing to the Global Biodiversity Framework targets and mutually supporting inclusive and sustainable development of the sector.

This event will showcase how GYBN Africa and partners have accelerated youth in GBF in the GBF and bring together government and donor organisations to discuss challenges and opportunities in engaging youth.

The side-event will emphasise the vital roles of science and biodiversity in accelerating investments in Nature-based Solutions (NbS) as well as the unique aspects of RLL. This will be done by presenting investment opportunities from RLL’s first incubation cycle highlighting the core environmental and social benefits of the different NbS projects, hence inciting an appetite for adoption and replication. The session aims at engaging private and public sector participants in conversations around the need to catalyse private sector investment into high-quality projects with significant biodiversity and climate co-benefits.

This event will showcase how various youth organisations and partners in SADC are implementing the GBF and provide an opportunity to discuss scale up and collaboration opportunities.

This side-event will reveal a dynamic roadmap to finance the Global Biodiversity Framework, crafted through expert insights and diverse voices. A lively panel of policymakers, investors, innovators, and community leaders will tackle challenges, innovative solutions, and real-world successes in mobilizing biodiversity finance.

The panel will address the  linkage between monitoring and resources mobilization challenges and opportunities based on 20 years of FLR work and what needs to be addressed aiming for effective impact. It will engage stakeholders to catalyze impact through GBF Target 2 setting and implementation during the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. 

This event aims to unpack the “Standards of Practice for Ecosystem Restoration – Guidance for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration” and to obtain feedback and inputs on a multi-tool platform being developed to facilitate their use.

Demonstrate the importance of the comprehensive landscape approach to achieve the Goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework with inclusion and equitable distribution of benefits.

This high-level opening session will set the stage by highlighting ecosystem restoration as a shared agenda between the three Rio Conventions and the need to overcome fragmentation in restoration policy, to implement commitments in NBSAPs and national targets.

The session will showcase the value of restoring diverse types of ecosystems, such as forest, grasslands, rangelands, savannas, inland water, peatlands, marine and productive ecosystems. It will also look at how to monitor restoration across ecosystems, including with the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring.

This last session will address the crucial topic of national capacity-building for countries to implement Target 2. From guidelines to e-learning courses and tools, you will learn about support available to deliver on your NBSAP.

In this side event, we will create a space for reflective and open dialogue among youth participants and governments to share experiences and best practices on intergenerational collaboration for biodiversity.
