CIFOR is a non-profit, scientific institution that conducts research on the most pressing challenges of forest and landscape management around the world. Founded in 1993, with headquarters in Bogor, Indonesia, CIFOR takes an innovative multidisciplinary approach to inform policies and practices that affect forests and people – and ultimately improve human well-being, protect the environment, and increase equity.
CIFOR and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) joined forces in 2019, leveraging nearly five decades of trusted science and extensive partnership networks across Africa, Asia and Latin America. CIFOR-ICRAF harnesses the power of trees to shift the trajectories of three global issues – biodiversity, climate change and food security – supported throughout by our work on value chains and equity. CIFOR and ICRAF are CGIAR Research Centers and, while functionally merged, they maintain separate legal entities.
