After 15 years with the US Forest Service Smokejumpers and working as a prescribed fire planner and ecologist in Idaho, USA, Brad moved to Indonesia in year 2000 to assist GIZ with developing an Integrated Forest Fire Management system in East Kalimantan. He first joined APRIL Group in 2003 to establish Fire Danger Rating and Initial-Attack fire suppression systems to protect APRIL’s fiber plantations and conservation areas. He also coordinated HCVF assessments and contributed to sustainable land use planning initiatives.
As Chief Technical Advisor to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds he provided operational oversight to Indonesia’s first Ecosystem Restoration company at Harapan Rainforest, developing a Forest Management and Business Plan.
Since 2016, Brad returned to APRIL as the Head of Operations for APRIL’s Riau Ecosystem Restoration (RER) landscape program to protect, assess, restore and manage 150,000+ ha of Sundaic lowland peat forest.
