CIFOR-ICRAF launched its operations in Uganda in 1988 in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research Council under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, amassing more than 30 years of research, engagement and impact.
Research areas include: sustainable management of Uganda’s highland areas, improved dairy feeding for increased milk yields, developing and scaling up the landcare approach, agricultural value chains development using innovation platforms approach, and development of a sustainable refugee-environment nexus. In the field of landscape restoration, CIFOR-ICRAF is developing options for halting and reversing land degradation and scaling up sustainable land management practices in fragile and high-risk areas, in line with Uganda’s agricultural sector development strategy and investment plan, and the strategic investment framework for sustainable land management.
CIFOR-ICRAF also contributes to Uganda’s Vision 2040 by promoting options and providing policy guidance on restoration of degraded lands through integration of trees on farms.
