Annual Report of the International Council for Research in Agroforestry, 1986

In April 1986, lCRAF's Board of Trustees formally approved the Programme of Work and structure which had been planned and developed alter the 1985 Board decision to implement the recommendations of the External Review Panel (see 1985 Annual Report). The strategy and background rationale of the new programme were contained in a paper entitled: "ICRAF 1986-1990. Report by the Director t'o the Board of Trustees with proposals on strategy and programme requirements for imple-mentation of the recommendations of the External Review Panel". In effect, the new programme became operational on 1 January 1986, following a recommendation for its approval by the Board Programme Committee in November 1985. Thus. this annual report for 1986 reflects lCRAF's new structure in reporting activities and achievements. In short, the Programme of Work for 1986-1990 has the following three priority objectives: • to continue to develop the agroforcstry discipline and to maintain lCRAF's global lead position in this process; • to assist in building national institutional capability to design and implement agroforcstry research programmes'. • to collaborate with national and other institutions in identifying and developing promising agroforestry technologies.
