Rural Migration and the Feminization of Agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa. A Mixed-Methods Study

This data was the qualitative component of a mixed methods project studying rural migration in Sub-Saharan Africa. The data was located in Tanzania and Ethiopia by local teams composed on 1 lead researcher and 4 enumerators. In Tanzania the data collection took place in June 2019 in two rural locations in Babati and Kilolo. In Ethiopia the data collection took place in July 2019 in Mecha woreda in West Gojjam and Dessie Zuria woreda in South Wollo in the region of Amhara. In each country the data collected was: a) 70 interviews (40 in Ethiopia and 30 in Tanzania) with women from households that had at least 1 migrant; b) 8 focus group discussion (4 in each site) disaggregated by age and sex; c) between 17 (Ethiopia) and 30 (Tanzania) interviews with migrants in their new locations. The interviews were then transcribed into English for analysis; d) key informant interviews (1 or 2 in each site)
