In this guide we concern ourselves with the effective transmission of numericalinformation in project reports and serious publications, such as scientific papers whichmight be prepared by DFID-funded researchers. For presentation of general statisticalinformation, we recommend an authoritative source of guidance: "Plain Figures"(1996, 2nd edition) by Myra Chapman and Cathy Wykes, published by H.M.Stationery Office, a 148 page book with many full-colour illustrations. "PlainFigures" is particularly intended for those addressing non-specialist audiences; thisguide sets out to reinforce and complement it, focusing on points most relevant tothose presenting structured research results to an informed audience. We giveguidelines for layout of graphs, charts and tables, then for the presentation of results ofstatistical analyses.
