System databases and simulation models as tools for soil and water management in ECA: towards increased research efficiency and impact

Exportar la cita

The workshop was truly participatory and this report is designed to reflect the mutual consensusreached by the participants. The excellent presentations made at the workshop have not beenpresented in full, since they were comprehensively discussed – only the results of these discussionsare presented in this report. The workshop participants agreed that innovative application ofinformation technology (IT) tools such as databases and modeling will produce knowledge that canbe shared across sites, eco-zones and countries. This will contribute to improving the efficiency andmeasurable impact of research in soil and water management in the subregion. The most importantresult of the workshop was the articulation of what requires to be done to achieve greater use of ITtools. Furthermore, the participants called for further prioritization of the identified interventions soas to design the most effective strategy for the region. It is for this reason that this report has beenpublished as a discussion paper. The main part of the report will also be produced in French tofacilitate discussion in Madagascar, Burundi, Rwanda and DR Congo.
