Agroforestry development should address the following aspects: increased productivity, sustainability of the system and adoptability as alternative land use by farmers (Raintree & Young, 1983). To develop agroforestry development plan, it need to recognize existing problems and defined it clearly (Widianto et al, 2003). Land - use valuation is one of methods to look for the efficiency of farming systems. This study aims to characterize current land use systems both in Bantaeng and Bulukumba districts, South S ulawesi. The identification was performed to find the major land use systems in the area, which used as main source of livelihood. Each land - used was assessed to define financial profitability as well as the labor engagement figure. Due to the different li fe cycle period, Equivalent Annual Annuity (EAA) is employed to compare the performance of each system. The discussion was explored using Raintree & Young criteria’s. The valuation suggests a range of major land - use systems in the study area which is group ed into (1) crops, (2) simple mixed garden, (3) complex mixed garden, (4) timber garden and (5) monoculture plantation. The valuation result draws figure of land - use productivity at the diagnostic stage of agroforestry development. Some options of agrofo restry development are offered based on land - use typology and the livelihood figure
